cherry sauce for waffles

combine:
2 cups fresh or frozen (not thawed) pitted cherries (10 oz package)
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup honey
2 tsp cornstarch
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla
in a small saucepan

bring to a boil over medium heat
cook, stirring occasionally til mixture thickens (about a minute)
